One of the best pieces of news we’ve received this year has been the revelation that after much badgering, Pacific Rim 2 is definitely happening, with Guillermo del Toro returning as a producer, while Steven S DeKnight (Daredevil) directs and John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) starring and co-producing. In the wake of this news they will have no doubt been looking for new cast members, and if this report from Deadline is correct, the sequel might have found another new face in the form of Scott Eastwood.
Having previously starred in Texas Chainsaw, Fury and The Longest Ride, among others, Eastwood’s career really seems to be taking off of late. We’ll next see him on screens in an as-yet unrevealed role in Suicide Squad, and will later star alongside Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson in Fast & Furious sequel Fast 8. There’s no word on who he’ll be playing in Pacific Rim 2, but it’s another solid addition to a film that frankly we still haven’t got over that it’s actually happening.
In the meantime, a release date has also been officially confirmed: 23 February 2018. Mark the date in your diary, folks.
We still haven’t heard whether surviving cast members like Charlie Hunnum, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Max Martini or Ron Perlman will return to reprise their roles – if we had to hedge our bets we’d say it’s only a matter of time, surely – but still, in the meantime this will tide us over.
Callum Greene, Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, Jillian Share and Thomas Tull are attached as producers alongside Boyega and del Toro, who is also penning the script alongside Derek Connolly, Travis Beacham, Zak Penn and Jon Spaihts.
Pacific Rim 2 will be released in cinemas on 23 February 2018. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
