Pacific Rim 2, Godzilla 2 titles officially confirmed

Find out what we all should start calling the Pacific Rim and Godzilla sequels

The official titles for both Pacific Rim 2 and Godzilla 2 have been announced, meaning we can finally stop calling them Pacific Rim 2 and Godzilla 2 as if they were some kinds of Kung Fu Panda sequels (not to knock Kung Fu Panda, of course, because that franchise is amazing).

First up, Pacific Rim 2 will be called Pacific Rim: Uprising, which is kind of surprising seeing as we’ve all presumed it would be called Maelstrom. Guess not…

The film will star John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Scott Eastwood (Fury), Adria Arjona (Emerald City), Tian Jing (Special ID) and Nick E Tarabay (The Expanse). Steven S DeKnight (DaredevilAngel) is directing, Knight, Emily Carmichael (The Adventures of Ledo And Ix), TS Nowlin (The Maze Runner) and Kira Snyder (The 100) has written the screenplay, and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro came up with the story.

Secondly, Godzilla 2 will officially be known for ever more as Godzilla: King Of Monsters, but we can’t decide if that sounds rubbish or awesome. The film is being directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus), with a screenplay by Dougherty, Max Borenstein (Godzilla) and Zach Shields (also Krampus).

You can read the announcement of the titles in the following press release from Legendary here:

Best known for his work as Executive Producer on such films as Warner Bros’ The Judge and Watchmen, as well as the recently released Jack Reacher: Never Go Back from Paramount, Gains’ responsibilities will include overseeing production of Legendary’s feature film slate including such highly anticipated projects as Pacific Rim: Uprising, Pokemon’s Detective Pikachu and Godzilla: King of Monsters. Gains will also work closely with the post-production team insuring that the filmmaker’s vision remains intact through production to final distribution.

Pacific Rim: Maelstrom hits cinemas on 23 February 2018 and Godzilla: King Of Monsters on 22 March 2019. Get all the latest science fiction news with every issue of SciFiNow.
