Universal Pictures has confirmed that it is producing a remake of Drop Dead Fred with Russell Brand in the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Originally released back in 1991 as a vehicle for Rik Mayall, the film was met with dire critical reception and a low box office. This time around, Universal is ploughing talent into the remake with Saturday Night Live writer Dennis McNicholas set to script and Marc Platt producing.
Rumours are circulating that the film will take a darker route than its predecessor, and as of yet neither a director nor supporting cast have been attached.
