New X-Men TV show will connect to the movies, says creator

The upcoming X-Men series is getting new characters and crossing over

If you’re a sucker for both the X-Men and shared universes, you’re going to lose your mind at the upcoming X-Men TV series. The show, which is as yet untitled, is set to exist in the same universe as the X-Men movies, according to creator Matt Nix.

Speaking at a press panel, Nix said: “Without getting into specifics that I’ll get murdered for, I would say that a fan of the movies — particularly the movies but also the comic books — would not be disoriented as to where this fits in the mythology.

“If you look at the movies that take place, they don’t all line up perfectly. So it’s not like I’m slavishly fitting myself into a particular slot [but] if you like that world and the world of the movies, there are definite nods to it, it definitely exists in the same general universe.”

However, the same can’t be said of the other new X-Men show, Legion, which will stay contained within its own TV universe.

Additionally, when asked if the new X-Men show would be connected to the X-Men movies like Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD is connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he said: “Close. Not exactly. In a sort of general way, it acknowledges that events like those that happened in the movie have happened.

“It’s still evolving, so we’ll see how much that comes in. But it’s certainly not like ‘since this happened [in] X-Men Apocalypse, now all of these things are happening,’ which I think is cool but [SHIELD] already did that.”

Nix also revealed that the new show is set to bring us new characters, saying that those from the comics will come together with some that he is “inventing with a nod towards the existing mythology”.
