New Mutants animatic video appears to confirm villain

Get an early look at the New Mutants movie’s big bad

Slowly but surely, Marvel’s New Mutants movie appears to be coming together. With Josh Boone (The Fault In Their Stars) down to direct, Scott Neustadter and Michael H Weber (500 Days Of Summer) to write the script, and even the roster of the team apparently confirmed by the director himself, the wheels seem to have gone into motion on this X-Men spin-off far faster than we thought it would. After all, we’re still waiting for something new to happen with Damage Control.

Intrugingly, it would appear that we now even know who one of the villains of the piece is. Thanks to this animatic video shared by Coming Soon it would seem that the young mutants will potentially be facing off against the Demon Bear:

For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Demon Bear is a muderous spirit animal who draws power from negative human emotions, effectively having the ability to corrupt human souls in the process. Having come into conflict with the New Mutants numerous times in the comics, he is more primarily an opponent of Dani Moonstar, aka Mirage – who incidentally is one of the characters likely to be included on the movie team’s roster.

Of course, these are all pre-production photos, so it’s impossible to confirm whether this scene will definitely make the cut, or whether it’s just one of the many preliminary ideas that Boone and co no doubt have swimming around in their heads. With a team that is currently rumoured to include characterts like Mirage, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Magik and Warlock, there are definitely a lot of potential storytelling opportunities floating around in the X-Men canon. Things seem to be getting that bit more interesting.

A release date for the New Mutants movie is yet to be announced. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
