Netflix sci-fi Warrior Nuns adds Sylvia De Fanti to the cast

Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series Warrior Nuns casts Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superion

Sylvia De Fanti (Medici) has been cast as a key series regular Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series Warrior Nun, according to Deadline.

The actress is set to play the role of Mother Superion, the person responsible for training the titular Warrior Nuns, and “while she might not give the orders, she’s the one who really runs the place. Having witnessed horrors as a child, she’s burdened with the guilt of the things she did and didn’t do while just trying to survive.”

De Fanti is an Italian actress best known for her work in Italian-language TV shows Don Matteo and Boris, as well as a handful of feature films and shorts. She recently appeared in the Florence-set political family drama Medici: Masters Of Florence as Maddalena Orsini.

The series will revolve around Alba Baptista as Ava, “a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artefact embedded in her back. She discovers she is now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.”

Warrior Nuns was written by Simon Barry (Continuum), who is also set to serve as showrunner for the series. Barry executive produces with Stephen Hegyes and Amy Berg will serve as a consulting producer. Co-executive producer is The 100‘s Terri Hughes Burton.

The show is based on the Antartic Press comic book series Warrior Nun Areala.
