Elmer’s adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.

The amazing cast has also been announced for the movie which includes Jacob Tremblay (Luca), Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things), Golshifteh Farahani (Invasion), Dianne Wiest (I Care a Lot), Rita Moreno (West Side Story), Chris O’Dowd (The Cloverfield Paradox), Judy Greer (Archer), Alan Cumming (Schmigadoon!), Yara Shahidi (Trollhunters), Jackie Earle Haley (Alita: Battle Angel), Mary Kay Place (The Prom), Leighton Meester (Killer Movie: Director’s Cut), Spence Moore II (All American), Adam Brody (Ready Or Not), Charlyne Yi (The Mitchells vs the Machines), Maggie Lincoln, Jack Smith with Whoopi Goldberg (The Stand) and Ian McShane (American Gods).

The film is directed by Studio Cartoon co-founder Nora Twomey (The Breadwinner), from a screenplay by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and a screen story by John Morgan and Meg LeFauve.

“Our actors, animators and artists at Cartoon Saloon have worked together to craft this film, inspired by Ruth Stiles Gannett’s amazing book,” Nora Twomey said. “We were drawn together by a desire to tell a very special tale of friendship, adventure, and true bravery. I fell in love with storytelling as a child and Netflix excels at celebrating all kinds of stories, through different styles and distinct voices.

“This has given me the opportunity to look through a beautiful lens and I am excited to share what I see with our audience around the world.”
