Morbius, The Living Vampire casts Jared Leto, director confirmed

Sony’s latest Spider-Man spin-off lines up Jared Leto for vampire times in Morbius

Sony’s non-Spider-Man Spider-Man universe has grown by another film, as it looks like a movie based on Morbius, The Living Vampire is a go.

Variety reports that Jared Leto is set to star in the film, which will be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Life, Safe House). Apparently Leto has been “loosely attached” for some time but was waiting until he found a director he liked. With Espinosa on board, so is Leto.

Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama wrote the script, and genre fans will know them from their reboot of Lost In Space on Netflix.

For those unfamiliar with the character, Morbius is “a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. He became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.” Variety claims that the film is looking to go into production later this year, which would make it the next in line after Venom. Silver And Black had been set for an 8 February 2019 release, but it was recently pulled from their schedule while Gina Prince-Blythewood and her team work on the script.

How will this fit into the myriad Joker projects Leto has potentially heading his way? What will his preparation and process be for a vampiric character? Only time will tell.
