Monday merchandise

We pick out the best sci-fi gear making the rounds this week.

One of the cool things about science fiction is the associated swag, and we’re not just talking about the stereotypical Seven Of Nine T-shirt worn at a convention by older men. There’s some genuinely good gear out there, and every Monday, we’ll be taking you through our picks of the week.

Besides, it’s Monday, there’s four days to go until Friday, so you may as well fantasise about these things.

UNIVERSAL DESIGNS – BATMAN BIKE GEAR

It was only really a matter of time, but wouldn’t it ruin the image of a big tough biker to have them wandering about in something that looks like it could just as easily be out of G.I. Joe as The Dark Knight? We can’t foresee a huge market for this (admittedly pretty cool) bit of clobber.

NBC UNIVERSAL – BUY MORE POLO

Alright, so maybe this isn’t the highlight of the summer season’s Chanel catalogue, but we think the stealth geek chic aspect of this polo outweighs any odd looks you may get at your local Staples or Asda. Available for the rather princely sum of $35 from the NBC Chuck store, located here.

FORBIDDEN PLANET – STAR WARS COMPACTOR BOOKENDS

Pretty awesome. Except, the whole diorama makes it look as if they’re trying to push the walls in, and Luke looks like he’s being violated by something out of the Overfiend. Available for a whopping £135 in 2010, and you can reserve one here.

Check back next week for more surprises from the world of commercial science fiction.
