Adam Driver, who plays Adam in Lena Dunham’s acclaimed HBO series Girls, has joined the cast of Jeff Nichols’ upcoming sci-fi Midnight Special, joining Kirsten Dunst, Joel Edgerton and Michael Shannon.

The Wrap reports that Driver (Inside Llewyn Davis, Frances Ha) has been cast by the critically acclaimed director of Mud, Take Shelter and Shotgun Stories, about “a father and son who go on the run after the dad learns his 8 year-old child possesses special powers.”

Midnight Special has been described as an homage to the classic sci-fi movies of the 1980s, particularly John Carpenter.

Driver was one of the names linked to the character of Nightwing in Man Of Steel 2, and this news suggests he won’t be taking the part.
