Men In Black/23 Jump Street crossover gets director

MIB 23 nabs probably the most fitting director possible

We’re still waiting for somebody to jump out from behind the curtain and shout  “April Fools!” Then we remember that it isn’t April, and that yes, the upcoming Men In Black/23 Jump Street crossover is actually a thing. But not only is its existence a fact – it actually has a director, namely one James Bobin.

Speaking in an interview with Collider, Bobin (whose handiwork will next be seen in Alice Through The Looking Glass) confirmed his involvement in MIB 23, as it is officially being referred to.

All in all, it’s a choice we’re definitely happy with. Having personally interviewed Bobin (the interview with who you can read in issue 119 of SciFiNow), I can attest for his enthusiasm and considered thought process, which he has demonstrated brilliantly in both The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, as well as via his involvement in Flight Of The Conchords and Da Ali G Show.

While there’s no word on exactly who’ll be starring in this (Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are surely a given, and we can’t imagine a MIB film without Will Smith. Tommy Lee Jones would be a bonus), Bobin’s appointment makes us a whole lot more confident than we were previously. Sure, the concept is utterly absurd, and we have no idea whatsoever how this will work, but we’re glad it exists.

For one thing, we’ll finally get the chance to cover the Jump Street franchise. Secondly, the Men In Black are coming back. It still feels like a case of ‘unfinished business’ with that particular series considering the mixed reception to Men In Black 3, and while we might have preferred a solo outing, we’ll happily settle for this.

A release date for MIB 23 is yet to be announced. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
