Men In Black sequel is happening; has release date and writers already

Men In Black 4 is actually happening, so here’s everything you need to know

After much speculation regarding Men In Black and the sequel Sony has slowly been spawning, we finally have confirmation that it’s still happening, as well as a release date: you can expect the agents back on the big screen on 17 May 2019

The film also has some writers attached already. Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, who previously worked together on Iron Man and Transformers: The Dark Knight, are teaming up again to pen the script.

Unfortunately, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (who played Agents Jay and Kay in the first two Men In Black films) aren’t expected to be returning to the alien-inhabited world to reprise their roles.

Instead, the new film will focus on two new characters working for the alien-fighting secret agency, and will be treated as more of a reboot, as opposed to a direct sequel or a remake.

The film, which is currently untitled, is being produced by Walter F Parkes and Laurie MacDonald and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. No director is attached just yet, but according to Deadline the producers are in the process of meeting with potential candidates.

News of another Men In Black film first emerged a while ago, when it was believed that Sony was planning on combining MIB with the 21 Jump Street franchise, starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, with Tatum and Hill stepping into the suits for Jay and Kay. That idea still seems to be happening, but a lot later down the line.

For now, let’s all enjoy the music video for Will Smith’s hit single ‘Men In Black’.

The untitled Men In Black sequel will be in cinemas on 17 May 2019. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
