Marvel’s Luke Cage cancelled after two seasons

Marvel’s Luke Cage isn’t getting a third season from Netflix

We weren’t all that surprised when Marvel’s Iron Fist was recently cancelled, due to the fact that it’s a bit shit. But the latest Marvel Netflix show to get the axe is a bit of a shock: Luke Cage will not get a Season 3, according to THR.

In a joint statement, Netflix and Marvel said: “Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Apparently, a source told THR that the cancellation was down to creative differences, but it’s still unclear if the creative differences were between showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker and Marvel TV, or between Marvel TV and Netflix.

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the show on the lead-up to the releases of its first two seasons, so it seems unlikely that Luke Cage‘s viewership played much of a part in the cancellation. But since Netflix never release their viewing figures we guess we’ll never know.

Luke Cage is currently available to stream on Netflix. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
