Mark Hamill Weighs In On Possible Luke Skywalker Return

The legendary Jedi believes his time with the franchise is over – and that, even with the chance to come back, he probably wouldn’t…

With talk of a new Ben Solo film being rejected by Disney and Daisy Ridley teasing that her Rey/Jedi Order film is still in development, fans have wondered whether Mark Hamill – aka Luke Skywalker – will make an appearance in the franchise again, particularly with The Mandalorian & Grogu and more spin-off series potentially coming. Well, the word from the horse’s mouth will disappoint fans.

Speaking to CBS Mornings recently, Hamill was asked about the possibility of returning, but he says he believes the character is done in the franchise now. Despite some room to manoeuvre for him in future films or series, he thinks it’s time to leave it behind.

“I think I’ve had my time. Especially in…the middle one, I’m only in cameos in [Episode 7] and [Episode 9]. The only time he was part of the narrative was in Episode 8, and they wrapped up my story. I think it’s funny that people miss the irony that he died from an overdose of the Force,” said Hamill.

“I mean, who knew that was even a thing? Don’t you think if there was even a marginal chance that using the Force could be lethal, Obi-Wan would’ve said ‘Use the Force in moderation, Luke?’ Or Yoda would’ve said ‘Overdo Force projection, you must not?’ Nobody warned me! But obviously, they concluded his story, he died.

“And I thought…in fact, not only did I think that was the right time to leave that franchise, I thought that’s a nice exit. Because as much as you enjoy a good entrance, you want to dignify a good exit,” Hamill added.

Mark Hamill has spoken a lot about his issues with 2017’s The Last Jedi – written and directed by Rian Johnson – and how the film concluded, but has come back in other series as a younger Luke Skywalker, and says his time will be spent outside of Star Wars now.
