Luke Cage first trailer brings down the house

Mike Colter is bulletproof in the new Luke Cage trailer

Having been described by creator Cheo Hodari Coker as “The Wire of Marvel television”, we’ve been expecting big things from Luke Cage, Marvel’s next series to debut on Netflix. And judging by this trailer to head our way from out of San Diego Comic-Con, it looks like we’re going to get them.

While it’s thin on additional plot details, it does feature a number of great money shots: Cage (Mike Colter) ripping off a car door to use as a shield while he barges into a house and makes short work of its inhabitants, bullets bouncing off him all the while, before rounding things off by facing up to crime lord Cornell ‘Cottonmouth’ Stokes (Mahershala Ali), all set to the backing music of ODB’s ‘Shimmy Shimmy Ya’. Sweet Christmas indeed.

In addition, we also have this lovely sizzler reel. Essentially it’s a compilation of the best bits we’ve seen so far from Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, but it’s definitely enough to whet the appetite for small-screen team-up The Defenders, especially with that final shot of the Punisher strolling out of his family home while it burns behind him. Cool guys don’t look at explosions, and all that.

Below is the official synopsis for Luke Cage:
After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.

Luke Cage will air on Netflix worldwide from 30 September 2016. You can download The 25 Greatest Marvel Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
