Legends Of Tomorrow confirms Jonah Hex cameo

Yes, Jonah Hex will actually show up in Legends Of Tomorrow. For real

One of the great things about Legends Of Tomorrow‘s premise is that with time travel involved, it offers rich potential in the way of storylines and characters that could be included. Even so, this latest piece of news cannot fail to come across as anything other than a complete surprise, with executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirming that none other than Jonah Hex will be showing up later on in the first season.

Speaking to Variety, Guggenheim said of Hex’s inclusion,”Ever since we decided that Legends would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West… But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply MUST include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”

Even so, it has to be noted that the CW has prior form for springing surprises like this, what with its John Constantine-centric episode on Arrow, which saw Matt Ryan reprise his role from the short-lived TV series. Comic-book movie aficionados won’t fail to forget Jimmy Hayward’s 2010 take on the character, which despite a strong cast (Josh Brolin in the title role alongside the likes of John Malkovich, Michael Fassbender, Megan Fox and Will Arnett) flopped dramatically, taking just $10 million at the box office from a budget of $47 million.

Regardless, there’s definitely potential in the scarred, cynical cowboy bounty hunter, who is still a fan-favourite in the comics. The CW’s shows have a proven capacity for injecting the characters with a sense of fun while still being recognisable to their fans, and hopefully this is something they can do with Hex.

Legends Of Tomorrow will air on Sky1 later in 2016. You can find out more about the characters and the comics that inspired them by picking up the latest edition of 100 All-Time Greatest Comics.
