Leftovers Season 3 trailer promises the end

A fittingly sombre tone is set for the final season of The Leftovers

All good things must come to an end, and thus it shall shortly come to pass with The Leftovers, Season 3 of which will return in April.

Never exactly renowned for its cheery disposition, the first look at the new season nails its colours to the mask in fittingly bleak fashion, showing the majority of the main cast looking at the sky, which now has ‘The End Is Near’ written in massive letters. We’re reckoning that this will be the work of those loveable scallywags the Guilty Remnant.

By the looks of it, no one else is having a particularly good time either – in particular Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), who has embraced the ‘devastated TV dad’ staple of growing a huge beard and standing there looking disconsolate. There’s a good chance that daddy issues may a big part in the new season – which switches between the US and Australia – as it has been confirmed that his father, Kevin Garvey Sr (played by Scott Glenn) has been promoted to series regular status.

Will it yield answers to the burning questions – most notably, where the hell did all the disappeared people go to? Somehow we highly doubt it judging by what we’ve seen so far, but expect a rollercoaster ride of emotion and angst nonetheless.

Anyway, you can watch the new trailer for the third and final season of The Leftovers below:

Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Margaret Qualley, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Amy Brenneman, Chris Zylka, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo, Jasmine Savoy-Brown, Janel Moloney and Scott Glenn will all return to reprise their roles, with Lindsay Duncan also joining the cast.

The Leftovers: Season 3 will air on HBO in the US from 16 April 2017, and in the UK on Sky Atlantic at a later date. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
