Arthur C Clarke Award-winning author Lauren Beukes hopes that Prometheus and Pacific Rim star Idris Elba will star in the film adaptation of her multi-award-winning novel Zoo City.
Speaking exclusively to SciFiNow about her upcoming novel The Shining Girls, Beukes gave an update on the script for her South African-set sci-fi.
“I just finished the rewrite of the Zoo City screenplay. I totally stalked Idris Elba to his hotel room when he was here and got him a copy of the book and he likes it!”
However, Beukes doesn’t want anyone to get their hopes up just yet.
“I’m aware that anything could happen with that, but celebrity stalking works, kids! So that’s been optioned by Helena Springs, which is a South African producer. And movies may or may not happen, 90% chance it won’t happen, but it’s been really fun to write the script and it’s been really fun to revisit that world. And also to kind of rework the story a bit, to make it work for film. You know adapting it’s been really really hard because the story’s already played out one way, and now to rejig it and make it more visual and more cinematic has been quite interesting.”
Lauren Beukes’ new novel The Shining Girls is released on 25th of April and you can pre-order it for £10.39 at Amazon.co.uk
