There’s been a nice gradual revealing of the new supporting cast members for next year’s Justice League movie. First we had a look at the (now disconcertingly buff) JK Simmons as Commissioner Jim Gordon; now, we can present your first look at Mera, queen of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman (Jason Momoa), as played by Amber Heard.
Our thoughts? We like it. As controversial an opinion as it may be, out of all the Justice League members, Aquaman is the one who most looks the part (despite bearing little or no resemblance to his comic-book counterpart), and Mera appears to have followed in this Atlantean tradition. She makes for a convincing co-overlord of the underwater kingdom, and we definitely wouldn’t want to mess with her. Hopefully we’ll get glimpses of her fellow amphibious counterparts and likely future Aquaman solo movie co-stars – played by the likes of Willem Dafoe and Kristofer Hivju – in due course.
Heard joins a cast that already includes the likes of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, JK Simmons and Willem Dafoe, with Zack Snyder directing from a script penned by Chris Terrio.
