Justice League casts Spider-Man star in mystery role

Find out who’s next to swap Marvel for DC in Justice League

It’s probably to early to call it a pattern, but DC does seem to be keeping a close eye on the availability of the cast of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. First it was announced that JK Simmons (aka the former J Jonah Jameson) had joined the cast of Justice League as Commissioner Jim Gordon, and now it has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that none other than Willem Dafoe (aka Norman Osborn, the first Green Goblin) has been recruited for DC’s all-star team-up.

Details on the report are pretty scarce (we don’t actually know who he’s playing yet, for a start), but according to THR he will be on the side of the angels, “playing a good guy in a role that will see him appear in both parts of the JL movies.” Our theory? Martian Manhunter is a possibility, although considering that the character is currently appearing in CBS’s Supergirl (played by the brilliant David Harewood) that theory may be one that’s swiftly heading out of the window. Then again, it didn’t prevent the casting of Ezra Miller as The Flash when Grant Gustin’s version was still speeding around, so you never know.

Dafoe joins a cast that already includes Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher, Amy Adams, JK Simmons and Amber Heard. Batman V Superman director Zack Snyder will return to helm the movie, working from a script by Chris Terrio, with Dan Lin, George Miller, Doug Mitchell, Barrie M Osborne, Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder on board as producers, and Wesley Coller and Geoff Johns executive producing.

Justice League: Part 1 will be released in cinemas on 17 November 2017. You can download The 25 Greatest DC Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
