A strong opening weekend for Jumper has made the promises of a franchise built around the film seem far more likely, despite being slated by the majority of critics.
The Doug Liman-helmed action thriller took a strong $27.2 million over its premiere across the United States, beating the second-place Step Up 2 The Street, which garnered $19.6 million.
In third place for the weekend was the adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, taking $19 million.
