Nikki Finke and The IESB have the (strongly worded) scoop on the story, which has been a long time coming following very public and vitriolic disputes between Marvel and the actor/director.

The studio has set a 2010 release date for the film, although pundits and Favreau himself view this as unrealistic. “This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the [Batman Begins and Dark Knight], [X-Men and X-Men 2] three-year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 2009 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of [Iron Man 2] and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.”

Robert Downey Jr will reprise his role as the metal-suited billionaire Tony Stark, although no plots details for the film are available at this point.
