Joker film films young Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth

Todd Phillips’ Joker has found its Alfred and Bruce Wayne

Todd Phillips’ upcoming Joker film has fleshed out its cast a little more with some important roles, including young Bruce and Alfred.

According to ComicBook.com, Dante Pereira-Olson has joined the cast as the child version of Batman’s alter ego Bruce Wayne. The young actor’s previous credits include You Were Never Really Here (which, like Joker, also stars Joaquin Phoenix), and Syfy’s comic book adaptation series Happy!.

Additionally, Douglas Hodge is set to play Alfred Pennyworth, the Wayne family’s loyal ex-military butler and Bruce’s future guardian and father figure. Hodge recently appeared in Red Sparrow and the ‘Black Museum’ episode of Black Mirror Season 4.

Phillips (The Hangover series, Due Date) is directing from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver (The Finest HoursThe Fighter8 Mile). Joker will also star Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Shea Whigham and more alongside Phoenix, Pereira-Olson and Hodge.

The film has been described as the “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.”

Joker is in cinemas from 4 October 2019. Get all the latest superhero news with every issue of SciFiNow.
