Speaking to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette to promote his one-man show (isn’t everything?), original Captain James T Kirk was keen to enforce the supremacy of his own incarnation of the show over JJ Abrams’ Star Trek reboot.

“I think it’s wonderful,” said Shatner. “It’s a great ride, a great opening up of Star Trek to modern audiences. It doesn’t have the story heart that the best of my Star Trek had, but it’s a glorious motion picture.”

Star Trek Into Darkness is in cinemas from 17 May 2013.
