Jenna Coleman leaving Doctor Who is officially unconfirmed

Speculation has been rife as to whether Jenna Coleman will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of Series 8, and the BBC has refused to confirm whether she will or won’t.

The Radio Times spoke to the BBC, and were told that “It’s speculation at this time… People will have to watch the series to see if she’s coming back or not.”

Depending on your point of view, refusing to confirm or deny might actually lend credence to the idea that Clara will be saying goodbye. The Mirror reported that Coleman would be leaving yesterday, quoting a source as saying “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out.”

The source stated that “It was very much a mutual decision” and that Coleman would be leaving after the Christmas special.

The BBC have responded by saying that “We want to focus on the upcoming series,” rather than focusing on cast speculation, which sounds fair enough when it’s put like that.

We put off posting this story until there was something concrete, and a deliberate, determined lack of concrete-ness is about as good as we’re going to get for now.

Doctor Who Series 8 begins 23 August 2014 on BBC One and BBC America. You can buy Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor on DVD for £9.99 at Amazon.co.uk and you can read more about Doctor Who Series 8 in the new issue of SciFiNow.
