Jared Leto’s Joker is getting his own movie, yes there’s another Joker film happening

Warner Bros is developing a Joker spin-off for Jared Leto

Love him or hate him, it seems that Warner Bros isn’t done with Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime.

THR reports that the studio is developing a spin-off movie for the character, which is separate to Todd Phillips’ stand-alone (which may or may not star Joaquin Phoenix in the role, he’s been so cagey about it).

Leto will star and executive produce the film, which “is currently out to writers for a take.” So, early days, then.

It joins a busy development roster, which also includes Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn spin-off Birds Of Prey (directed by Cathy Yan), Suicide Squad 2 (which is reportedly going into production next year after being delayed), and a Harley-Joker movie from Crazy Stupid Love duo Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

Birds Of Prey is tipped to be the first of these movies out of the gate, but in terms of releases, we’ve got Aquaman in December, Shazam! in April and Wonder Woman 2 in November next year.

Depending on who you ask, Leto’s Joker either wasn’t in Suicide Squad enough (he was basically an extended cameo) or he shouldn’t have been in it at all (he definitely made some big choices, and that doesn’t even include sending all sorts of terrible things to his cast mates as method preparation). The actor was reportedly unhappy with how little screentime he ended up with, but it certainly looks like Warner Bros wants to make it up to him, so you can celebrate or rage accordingly.
