James Wan directing an I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series

James Wan is getting ready to direct the pilot of an I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series

The Conjuring mastermind James Wan is currently working on an I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series, according to Deadline. Wan is set to direct the pilot episode.

The series is being made for Amazon, and will be based on the 1997 teen horror film starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr and Ryan Philippe. The project has been discussed for a few years now — back in 2014, a report about a feature-length remake was making the rounds — but this is the furthest it’s gone.

Best known for creating the Conjuring universe, Wan also directed films like AquamanInsidiousFurious 7 and Saw, and created Saw‘s Billy the Puppet.

The TV version of I Know What You Did Last Summer is still in the very early stages of development, but it’s being branded as a “YA horror series”. Deadline also reports that John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum‘s Shay Hatten is attached to write the script.

The series is part of Amazon’s overall deal with Neal Moritz, one of the producers of the original I Know What You Did Last Summer film.
