Jacob’s Ladder remake finds director and star

The remake of Jacob’s Ladder is good to go

It was back in 2013 when we heard about a remake of Adrian Lyne’s twisty 1990 chiller Jacob’s Ladder, and now it looks like it’s finally moving ahead.

Deadline reports that Michael Ealy (Almost Human, Margaret, Think Like A Man) will star in the reboot, which will be helmed by Ealy’s The Perfect Guy director David M Rosenthal. It’s being written by Sarah Thorp (The Bounty Hunter) and Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train, Insanitarium).

Rosenthal also directed the Sam Rockwell thriller A Single Shot, which had an excellent cast (William H Macy, Jeffrey Wright, Jason Isaacs, Kelly Reilly…) but less than excellent reviews.

The original movie starred Tim Robbins in the title role, with Elizabeth Pena, Danny Aiello, Matt Craven, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Jason Alexander, Eriq La Salle and Ving Rhames in support. It’s arguably Lyne’s best film, with great performances and some brilliantly nightmarish imagery, as Jacob Singer goes through hell.

The new plot is simply teased as being “a modern-day paranoid action thriller about two brothers.” That does sound a little different from the original’s: “Mourning his dead child, a haunted Vietnam war veteran attempts to discover his past while suffering from a severe case of dissociation. To do so, he must decipher reality and life from his own dreams, delusion, and perception of death.”
