Insidious Chapter 4 is confirmed with a new director

We’ll be going back to the Further with Insidious 4 in 2017

Recently there were rumblings that the Insidious franchise would be returning with a fourth chapter, and now those rumblings are reality.

Blumhouse has set Insidious: Chapter 4 for an October 2017 release. Leigh Whannell, who has written every Insidious and directed last year’s Chapter 3, is back as a writer but won’t be behind the camera. Directing duties fall to Adam Robitel, who made the very well-received The Taking Of Deborah Logan. Jason Blum, Oren Peli and James Wan will produce.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Insidious without the great Lin Shaye as Elise Rainier, and she’s set to return for more venturing into The Further. No plot details have been confirmed, but it would be nice to pick up after Chapter 3 and see Elise, Tucker (Angus Sampson) and Specs (Whannell) forming into the spirit hunting unit they became.

There’s a fun announcement video from Whannell and Shaye here:

Although Chapter 3 didn’t get the best reception from some, we thought it was a solid, scary entry and a strong directorial debut from Whannell and it made sense to leave the Lambert family behind (How can the same haunting happen to the same family three times?). We’re also very much on board with the fact that Lin Shaye essentially has her own franchise at this point, and that’s just a good thing, isn’t it?

Insidious: Chapter 4 will be released on 20 October 2017. Keep up with the latest horror news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
