A little while back the news was that Will Smith and director Francis Lawrence were to reteam for a prequel to I Am Legend, their zombie-apocalypse thriller from last year. There is a new rumour now doing the rounds that this prequel has been shelved in favour of an out-and-out sequel.
The notion of a prequel, which was reportedly to be set a few years before the events of I Am Legend, as Smith’s character Robert Neville fails to save the lives of a group of other survivors, was canned by Warner Bros. in favour of a follow-on movie. For those who haven’t seen the film yet, beware there are spoilers below, but in the theatrical cut of the first movie Neville died. There was an alternate ending in which he survived, but following from this point seems a tenuous way to fashion a sequel.
