House producers looking to launch Frankenstein TV series

Universal plan to update the gothic horror classic

House executive producers Russel Friend and Garrett Lerner are planning to update Mary Shelley’s classic gothic horror novel Frankenstein as a TV series for NBC.

While the copyright on the original novel Frankenstein has long since expired, Universal do own the original, 1931 movie depiction brought to (un)life so iconically by the late Boris Karloff in his mighty forehead and bolts on the neck form, giving them a slight edge over the competition in terms of brand recognition. It’s not known how this will impact on the eventual series, but it’s certainly worth noting.
