Industry newspaper The Hollywood Reporter has posted its own analysis of what shows are likely to return in the new season. The shows expected to return and the ones heading for the cancellation lines are in line with what has been reported before by SciFiNow, however genre fans will be interested in the following predictions:
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles – Fox has reportedly been pleased with the consistently solid ratings drawn by the Lena Headey-starring show, and it seems likely given recent comments by Thomas Dekker that the series will indeed be back.
Knight Rider – NBC were satisfied with the high ratings that the telemovie drew, and reports are coming that they are in talks with a showrunner to helm a possible series that expands on the characters and events covered by the film.
Pushing Daisies – Although the show will not be returning immediately, it will air a new season in Autumn. The break is supposedly to give a little more consideration to the budget, which was running over estimates.
Jericho – Although the network has yet to make a decision on the troubled show, it seems unlikely that it will be given another reprieve. The ratings have not been good (although this is likely due to the time slot as much as anything else), and two different endings have been shot for the seven episode miniseries.
Reaper – All reports indicate that the show appears to have lost its way creatively after what was initially a strong start. It is also unlikely that the show will return for a second series.
Please bear in mind that official announcements have not been made for several of the shows listed here, and until confirmed, this should be treated as informed speculation. The shows already confirmed as returning include Chuck, Pushing Daisies, Heroes, Lost, Ghost Whisperer, Smallville and Supernatural.
