HG Wells’ classic tale The Island Of Doctor Moreau is set for another adaptation, with Hemlock Grove writers Brian McGreevy and Lee Shipman hired to write the script.

Warner Bros and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions have set the wheels in motion for the story of a young man who is shipwrecked and finds himself on the titular island, where the scientist’s experiments with turning animals into people. Deadline reports that “the intention is to make it a sci-fi film with a topical ecological message.”

However it turns out, this new version surely cannot be worse than John Frankenheimer’s 1996 disaster of a film starring Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer.

You can buy the 1932 classic Island of Lost Souls on Dual Format Blu-ray and DVD for £9.93 at Amazon.co.uk.
