Harry Potter And The Cursed Child gives a first look at the Potters

Harry, Ginny and Albus Severus get ready for the Cursed Child

With less than two months to go until JK Rowling’s new play Harry Potter And The Cursed Child opens in the West End, we’ve finally been given a first look at the Potters.

The History Boys‘ Jamie Parker is taking the reins from Daniel Radcliffe as Harry. Poppy Miller is playing his wife and all-round badass Ginny Potter (née Weasley), while Sam Clemmett will be Harry and Ginny’s middle child Albus Severus.

Speaking to Pottermore about Harry’s famous scar and glasses, Parker said: “They’re just iconic. These are stories that people have lived with for their whole lives, they’ve grown up with and now they’re adults re-joining the tale, picking it up where they left off and I’m one of them. In a sense you don’t need more than the scar and the glasses, you kind of go, ‘there it is’ and I don’t really know how to put it into words, it’s just immeasurably exciting and I can’t wait to show it to people.

“It’s a unique gig in the sense that you have seven volumes of backstory that you get to bring on with you. And we were all very keen to make sure that the first time you see Harry it just feels right.”

Can’t it just be July already?

Here’s the play’s official plot synopsis:

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child opens in at the Palace Theatre, London, in July. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
