The second season of Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal continues to get more exciting, as Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Pitt has been cast as wealthy psychopath Mason Verger.
EW reports that Pitt (Funny Games, The Dreamers) will appear towards the end of the season, playing the sadistic brother of Margot, who will be played by the recently cast Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps, American Mary). Mason will reportedly be playing a game of cat and mouse with the good doctor, which seems like a shockingly bad idea.
Mason Verger is a patient of Hannibal’s, who in Thomas Harris’ novel Hannibal spends a great deal of money and time attempting to capture the cannibal doctor and extract his revenge. The character was played by Gary Oldman in Ridley Scott’s 2001 film.
