Get your first look at Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale TV series

One of the adaptations of 2017 we’re most intrigued about is Hulu’s new, 10-episode take on Margaret Atwood’s science fiction classic The Handmaid’s Tale – created by Bruce Miller – which takes place in a dark future in world in which women have become second-class citizens and forced to work as sex slaves.

While we haven’t got much to go on when it comes to examining Hulu’s track record, the cast is promising. Leading the cast are Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) as Offred and Joseph Fiennes (American Horror Story: Asylum) as the Commander, both of who you can see in the photos in this article. Add in the likes of Samira Wiley (Orange Is The New Black), Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck) and Max Minghella (Horns), and you have something that hopefully will bear comparison with Volker Schlöndorff and Harold Pinter’s 1990 film adaptation of the same name.

You can eead the synopsis and take a look at the first images for Hulu’s TV series of The Handmaid’s Tale below:

The drama series, based on the award-winning, best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood, is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

The Handmaid’s Tale will be available to stream on Hulu in the US from April 2017, with a UK air date and channel to be announced. For all the latest TV news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
