Han Solo movie looking for a young Lando

Is the Han Solo movie looking at a Community star for Lando Calrissian?

While Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo will likely be sharing most of his screen time with the formidable Chewbacca in Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s Star Wars anthology movie, they’ll need a supporting cast. As per The Wrap, it looks like casting has begun for one such character: none other than the likeable gambler, card player and scoundrel himself, Lando Calrissian.

As a friend and acquaintance of Solo, it’s unsurprising to hear that he’ll be present – and also somewhat reassuring to hear that he hasn’t been totally forgotten about. Sure, he’s had a few canonical appearances since Return Of The Jedi, having shown up in a few episodes of animated series Star Wars: Rebels (voiced by original actor Billy Dee Williams), and in the comic-book Shattered Empire, but he was absent in The Force Awakens, and there hasn’t been any mention of his presence in Episode VIII (not that this means he won’t appear, of course). If plans are afoot to detail more of his back story then it’s reasonable to hope that his character might return one day.

Is Donald Glover in the frame to play the young Lando Calrissian?

Interestingly, BirthMoviesDeath has taken things one step closer by mentioning a rumoured first choice for the role: Community and The Martian star Donald Glover. There’s no word on a source, and he seems like a kind of obvious choice, but we wouldn’t have any real problem if this did turn out to be the case. Glover is great from both a comedic and dramatic standpoint, and could definitely be a scene-stealer in the same way that Williams was.

The Star Wars Anthology: Han Solo movie will be released in cinemas on 25 May 2018.
