According to The Hollwood Reporter the project already has Katie Holmes on its cast list and will be directed by Troy Nixey, while Guillermo del Toro, a friend of Nixey, will be producing along with Mark Johnson. In addition to this, del Toro and Matthew Robbins wrote the script from which this new version will be based on.

Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark first aired on ABC in 1973. Its plot revolved around a young girl who, after moving in with her father, realises that her new home is inhabited by strange creatures. With this casting development in play, Pearce will take on the role of the father and Madison that of the daughter.

Nixey’s first feature was Latchkey’s Lament, a short film that brought together CGI animation and live-action to tell its tale. Madison caught the world’s attention in the fantasy feature Bridge To Terabithia. She has since gone on to star in a number of films, as well as a brief role in The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

The film is slated to shoot in Melbourne, Australia next month. At this time no release date has been set.
