OK, hands in the air time, it’s not really called Justice League Dark – but that’s the most effective shorthand for Guillermo del Toro’s proposed mega-movie featuring as many of the DC Universe’s supernatural characters as he can fit onto a screen – from John Constantine and Deadman to The Spectre and The Phantom Stranger.

Nonetheless, some journalists got a wee bit confused and asked the Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director if he was working on Warner Bros’ long-mooted Justice League, confirming in his reply that the occult team-up, called Heaven Sent, was definitely under discussion.

“I’m not involved in Justice League,” del Toro told MTV. “I’ve been discussing with the fans and I’ve been very, very open about how much Swamp Thing was key when I was a kid. Comics in Mexico came on the first two days of the week. Around Tuesday and Wednesday I would go to the newsstand on my bicycle and I would get Swamp Thing every time it was available and I loved Jack Kirby’s Demon. I love Constantine and all that. You know, I’ve been pursuing doing something with them for many, many years. Hopefully it’ll come to pass. But we are still just discussing.”

The first volume of Justice League Dark is out now – get it for £9.40 from Amazon.co.uk.
