Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 confirms 2 missing cast members

Well, not missing exactly, but these 2 won’t be back for Guardians 2

Filming on Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 is already underway, but it’s just been confirmed that two of the stars of the first movie won’t be back.

Writer-director James Gunn took to his Facebook page (via Den Of Geek) to confirm that John C Reilly and Benicio del Toro will be absent from the sequel.

According to Gunn, del Toro’s Collector, who was responsible for the bulk of the Infinity stone exposition as well as storing Howard The Duck, ““just didn’t fit into Volume 2.” However, there’s apparently still scope for a return in later Marvel movies.

As for Reilly’s Corpsman Dey, who doesn’t believe that doesn’t believe that anybody is 100% a dick, Gunn simply said that he “is not back for Volume 2, unfortunately.” While we love Reilly, we can definitely see that he might not necessarily fit into the plot of a sequel given that he was a bit of a scene-setting character. Still, we’d like to see him return at some point.

Meanwhile, the rest of the gang is back, including Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Sean Gunn as Kraglin (and the on-set Rocket). New additions include The Night Manager‘s Elizabeth Debicki, Oldboy‘s Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sons Of Anarchy‘s Tommy Flanagan as Tullk, a possible appearance by Sylvester Stallone, and, oh yeah, Kurt Russell as Star Lord’s dad.

The plot details for the film are being kept pretty much under wraps at the moment, but the official synopsis is “Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.”

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 is released on 28 April 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
