Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy fires a shot across DC’s bows with new Yondu origin story

Guardians Of The Galaxy Yondu

The first official look – of sorts – at Michael Rooker’s Yondu in Guardians Of The Galaxy has made its way online, courtesy of Instagram user Auroreb.

As a bonus, we’ve got a little more of an origin story for this incarnation of Yondu. In the comic, he’s a sort of stock ‘noble savage’ and one of the original members of the Guardians Of The Galaxy, but here he’s reinvented as a “bandit” and “less-than-perfect” mentor to Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill.

While it’s good to get a bit more background on this version of Yondu too, Marvel do seem to be ignoring the inconvenient fact that The Ravagers are already a DC Comics superteam.

Looking forward to seeing Zack Snyder bust out his own Avengers in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Over to you big guy!

Guardians Of The Galaxy is due in cinemas 31 July 2014. To read our behind the scenes, pick up the new SciFiNow. Pick up James Gunn’s Super on DVD for £4.49 or Blu-ray for £6.99 from Amazon.co.uk and find out more about the comics that inspired the film with new digital magazine Uncanny Comics.
