It may not be a classic comic-book coupling up there with Spider-Man and Mary-Jane Watson, Superman and Lois Lane, or Wolverine and Doop, but Green Arrow’s romance with siren-voiced vigilante Black Canary has been a major factor in the DC comics, with the pair getting married in 2007.

A first cast list for the the forthcoming live action Green Arrow TV show includes one Dinah ‘Laurel’ Lance, who is described as “28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara.”

In the comic, Lance follows her mother into the superhero business with her ultrasonic, steel-shattering ‘Canary Cry’ and martial arts as the Black Canary. Despite an initially antagonistic relationship with Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow, the two got together.

Both characters appeared in the longrunning young Superman show, Smallville, but despite being produced by the same network, The CW, it’s not clear how much of that depiction will be carried across, or whether we’ll see Dinah Lance’s super-powered alter ego at all.

The pilot is being produced by Green Lantern movie writers Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, and Fringe/Warehouse 13′s Andrew Kreisberg, and casting begun this week.
