There are two news nuggets hailing from the world of Amazon’s TV adaptation of Good Omens this week.
Firstly, the six-episode series (which is based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name) is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video worldwide and on BBC Two in the UK on 31 May.
Secondly, Benedict Cumberbatch has officially joined the cast. The Sherlock and The Hobbit actor will be playing Satan opposite Frances McDormand as the voice of God. It has been said that the character of Satan will be “400-foot high”, “giant” and “animated”, and will appear in episode 6 of the series.

Fussy angel and rare book dealer Aziraphale and fast living demon Crowley have lived amongst Earth’s mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle and of each other. So it’s really terrible news for both of them that, if Heaven and Hell have their way, the world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis has risen, tempers are flaring. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are ready to ride. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Expect that someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.
Michael Sheen as Aziraphale and David Tennant as Crowley lead an absolutely colossal cast comprised of Anna Maxwell Martin as leader of the forces of Hell Beelzebub, Jon Hamm as Archangel Gabriel, Josie Lawrence as 17th century witch Agnes Nutter, Adria Arjona as Anathema Device, Michael McKean as Witchfinder Sergeant Shadwell, Miranda Richardson as medium-cum-courtesan Madame Tracy, Reece Shearsmith as William Shakespeare, Steve Pemberton and Mark Gatiss as book-sellers Harmony and Glozier, Derek Jacobi as Metatron, Mireille Enos as War, Nick Offerman as the US Ambassador, Jack Whitehall as Newton Pulsifer, Nina Sosanya as Sister Loquacious, Lourdes Faberes as Pollution, Yusuf Gatewood as Famine, Ned Dennehy as Hastur, Ariyon Bakare as Ligur, Daniel Mays as Arthur Young, Sian Brooke as Deidre Young and Frances McDormand as the Voice of God.
