It’s a good day for kaiju fans: the trailer for Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is here and it’s looking absolutely epic. There’s so many heavy hitters here: Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and, of course, the mighty Gojira.
After the hugely entertaining Kong: Skull Island, Michael Dougherty’s film looks to be more in line with Gareth Edwards’ more sombre 2014 Godzilla, albeit with many more monsters and things on fire. There’s also an incredible cast, including Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, O’Shea Jackson Jr, Zhang Ziyi, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds and Charles Dance.
“The new story follows the heroic efforts of the cryptozoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient superspecies, thought to be mere myths, rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
How all this will fit into 2020’s Godzilla Vs Kong remains to be seen, but it definitely looks like this movie finds humanity in a very different world the first film. What’s going to be left of our world for the two to fight over?
Godzilla: King Of The Monsters is released on 31 May 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
