Godzilla: King Of The Monsters casts Bates Motel star

The Conjuring and Bates Motel star joins the cast of Godzilla 2

Following the news that Kyle Chandler had signed on to play the father of Millie Bobby Brown’s character in the Godzilla sequel, the family unit has had another addition.

THR reports that Bates Motel star Vera Farmiga has signed on to play Brown’s character’s mother in the monster sequel, directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus, Trick R Treat).

And if you’re hoping for more details about Godzilla: King Of The Monsters…well, sadly, that’s it. Farmiga will be playing “the mother of Millie Bobby Brown in the Godzilla sequel” and that is all the details they’re giving out. We know that Chandler’s character is a scientist…what about Farmiga’s?

Still, we’re loving these casting choices. Chandler is obviously the perfect choice for a father/father figure (we’ve talked about this before, at length), and Farmiga is one of our favourite actresses around. She’s owned Bates Motel since the show’s creation with a perfectly judged performance, and she’s been incredible in everything from The Departed and Up In The Air to Orphan and The Conjuring. And who doesn’t like Eleven?

Doughtery is directing from the screenplay he wrote with his Krampus collaborator Zach Shields. It will be his third directorial effort, and definitely a jump from his previous two films, but having seen the creature carnage in his Christmas horror and the love of monsters and classic movies on display in both his previous efforts, we’re confident that he can handle it.

Godzilla: King Of The Monsters will be released in cinemas on 22 March 2019. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
