Ever since that first announcement, we’ve been waiting for the next piece of news regarding Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot – and now it looks like we have it. It’s certainly unexpected, but brilliant nonetheless, with the God of Thunder himself Chris Hemsworth now confirmed among the cast
Speaking on Twitter, Feig appeared to confirm the presence of the Thor and Avengers Assemble star, posting a picture of Hemsworth accompanied by the words, ‘Our receptionist. #whoyougonnacall’.
The prospect of Hemsworth in the sort of role made iconic by Annie Potts’ Janine Melnitz in the original two Ghostbusters films is definitely one that’s piqued our interest. Hopefully this’ll be the first of many off-kilter casting choices in a film which, after the recent success of the Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham-starring Spy, is something we’re looking forward to more than ever.
Hemsworth joins a cast that already includes McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Cecily Strong, with Feig directing and Kate Dippold writing the script.
Ghostbusters will be released on 22 July 2016. For more on the biggest movie news, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
