Ghostbusters 3 and Morbius get release dates from Sony

Morbius and Ghostbusters 3 both get summer 2020 release dates from Sony

Sony has set some release dates for a couple of its most anticipated upcoming films: Ghostbusters 3 will be hitting cinema screens on 10 July 2020, while Morbius will be dropping three weeks later on 31 July 2020.

For those unfamiliar with Morbius, the film will be based on the Marvel character Morbius, which was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane in 1971 for The Amazing Spider-Man #101. He was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with unfortunate results, instead becoming afflicted with vampiric traits like fangs and a thirst for blood.

Daniel Epinosa (Safe House) is directing the film from a script written by Lost In Space‘s Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing alongside Lucas Foster, with Palak Patel overseeing the project for Sony. Last week, Doctor Who and The Crown‘s Matt Smith joined the cast in an undisclosed role alongside Jared Leto as Morbius and Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft.

If you’re unfamiliar with Ghostbusters, where have you been for the last 40 years? Ghostbusters 3 is being directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) director Ivan Reitman, and will take place in the same universe as the first two films. Reitman co-wrote the script with Gil Kenan, and shooting will begin in a few months.
