According to Deadline, Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders has signed up to take on the live-action remake of classic 1989 cyberpunk anime Ghost In The Shell.
The film is in development at DreamWorks, and is being produced by Avi Arad, Ari Arad, and Steven Paul, and will be shot in 3D.
A huge influence on The Matrix, Ghost In The Shell deals with a special police unit in future Tokyo on the trail of a rogue AI and explores the idea of life and identity through the medium of brilliantly realised hyper-violence and gun-fu.
Here’s hoping it fares better than the live-action remake of Akira, which didn’t happen, and Crying Freeman, which did.
