Genre gets a nod in Golden Globes

However, Star Trek snubbed in nomination list

true-blood14Avatar, True Blood, District 9 and The Lovely Bones have all received nominations for a Golden Globe award in various categories, with the announcement of the shortlist.

True Blood is up for Best Television Series – Drama, while its lead Anna Paquin is up for Performance By An Actress In A Television Series – Drama. No other genre nods appear in the television category, but several do in the feature film arena.

Avatar, while not even released yet, is up for the prestigious Best Feature – Drama category along with the alternate history Inglourious Basterds from Quentin Tarantino, who is also nominated in the category of Director – Motion Picture.  Stanley Tucci, playing the world’s worst neighbour in The Lovely Bones, received a nomination for Supporting Actor, along with Christoph Waltz from Basterds.

Somewhat surprisingly, District 9 was nominated for Screenplay – Motion Picture, while the genre cleaned up in the animated nominations with The Princess And The Frog, Fantastic Mr Fox, Coraline, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and Up. Rounding off science fiction and fantasies nods was Michael Giacchino with his score for Up, along with James Horner for Avatar and Karen O and Carter Burwell for Where The Wild Things Are. Avatar also received a nod for Best Original Song with ‘I Will See You’.
