Game Of Thrones Season 6 casts new red priestess

Will Melisandre be getting some help in Season 6 of Game Of Thrones?

Having already met Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and Thoros (Paul Kaye), it looks like we’re about to meet yet another acolyte of R’hllor, with fan site Watchers On The Wall reporting that British actress Melanie Liburd is joining the cast of Game Of Thrones Season 6 as red priestess Kinvara.

Although she looks like a completely new character, she seems to be inspired at least in part by the source material. In the books, the High Priest of the Red Temple of Volantis (who Kinvara works for) eventually takes an interest in Daenerys, and sends an emissary accordingly. It looks like Kinvara will be playing a similar role here, seeing R’hllor’s influence stretch even wider.

For her part, this will be Liburd’s biggest role to date, having previously starred in odd episodes of the likes of Dracula, Stalker and CSI. She joins a host of newcomers, such as Max von Sydow (the Three-Eyed Raven), Pilou Asbaek (Euron Greyjoy), James Faulkner (Randyll Tarly), Freddie Stroma (Dickon Darly) and Essie Davis (Lady Stork).

Game Of Thrones: Season 6 will air on Sky Atlantic in April 2016. For more news on the biggest TV shows, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
